A bit about Debbie Davitt, Garden Designer for New Leaf Design

Debbie Davitt - being a bit daft at Kiftsgate garden!

Being a bit daft at Kiftsgate Garden

My goal is to provide a friendly and professional garden design service.  I want you to enjoy your garden and find happiness there.

I think gardens and green spaces are hugely important to people’s health, happiness and sense of wellbeing.

I meet many people who have become frustrated with their garden and can’t see where to go next.  Often the garden has become a burden and not the pleasure it should be.

By listening carefully to my clients and understanding what they would like to achieve I can draw on my skills to create a garden that will bring enjoyment.

I have had a lifelong passion for horticulture and design.  It has been a pleasure to be able to combine the two and make garden design my second career

In 2004 I left a successful career in finance to re-train at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Harlow Carr gardens in Harrogate and Askham Bryan College in York.  I have also brought many of the skills learned as a management accountant to my own business New Leaf Design which was established in 2005.

I am working towards becoming a fully accredited designer with the Society of Garden Designers

Community

From time to time I get involved with community projects - it’s nice to be able to put something back.

New Leaf Design Fete plant stall

Ben Rhydding Community Fete - in the early years I ran a plant stall raising money for the National Gardens Scheme.  I’m also the Treasurer and being on the committee I get involved in this popular annual event which brings lots of locals together.

Volunteer gardener - I was a volunteer at Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate one day a week for several years.  It was great to support the Royal Horticultural Society and the people I met there, both staff & volunteers, were lovely.

Five Oaks Community Garden - in 2012 I was approached to help out with a project to improve the communal gardens at Five Oaks in Ben Rhydding.  The residents association are hopeful that the owners Sanctuary Housing will build the design I created to make a wheelchair friendly garden which all the residents can enjoy and use to develop their green fingers.  Watch this space in 2013!
